The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday signed the peace accord for presidential candidates ahead of the 2019 elections.
Concise News also gathered that the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) presidential candidate, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, signed the peace deal at the National Peace Committee headquarters in Abuja.
The two candidates and some others were not present when President Muhammadu Buhari signed the accord on Tuesday.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, had explained that the PDP was not represented due to communication gap.
Atiku, after signing the peace accord, said that he was committed to free, fair and credible election.
He also commended Buhari for signing the peace deal but urged him to sign the electoral act amendment bill into law to demonstrate his willingness to ensure free and fair elections
Ezekwesili also called on Buhari to sign the electoral act amendment bill, saying it was the only way to assure Nigerians that he is ready for free and fair elections in 2019.
The National Peace Committee, convened by eminent Nigerians, is headed by former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd).
