FG Moves To Resolve ASUU Crisis

The Federal Government has expressed the possibility that the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) would suspend its going nationwide strike.

According to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Clement Illo, government was positive that it would resolve the crisis soon.

Senate President had convened a meeting with the body alongside its Committee on Labour, Education, among others on Wednesday. The meeting had ended in a deadlock.

However, Illo, said the three-hour meeting recorded huge success toward resolving the issues. He said it is a step in the right direction.

“It is still work in progress and we are still meeting on Friday and on Monday. But the indications are very positive that the issues will be resolved as quickly as possible. We are sure of success on Friday but if we did not, then we will definitely succeed by Monday.”

Strike Will End Soon

Ilo further said that he remains optimistic that all the issues raised will be resolved soon.

“The possibility like I said of suspending the strike is still very positive. Because there is high possibility that the strike would be suspended.”

“This is because the issues have been very well articulated and already. The focus is on how it will be resolved.”

The permanent secretary said government will ensure that the process of implementing the agreement was resolved as quick as possible.

“Like I said, it is very positive, why should government not implement something it signed in good faith?”

ASUU had embarked on one-week warning strike on Wednesday 16th November.
