Police Nab 'High Profile' Boko Haram Commanders In Borno

The Police in Borno state, northeast Nigeria, say they have arrested two “high profile’’ Boko haram commanders.

Concise News understands that they confessed to have taken part in attacks on security locations in Nigeria and Cameroon.

Commissioner of police in the northeast state, Mohammed Aliyu, said that while one of the suspects, Ali ibrahim, was arrested on January 6 in Maiduguri, the other suspect, Umar Abacha, who had escaped to Lagos, was arrested when he returned to Maiduguri on may 13.

According to Aliyu, during preliminary investigation, the suspects confessed to have been part of many attacks on security locations in which military weapons were carted away.

Five Nigerian soldiers were reported to have been killed after an ambush by Boko Haram’s Islamic State-backed faction.

According to a source, the fighters from Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Friday opened fire on a column of civilian vehicles under military escort in the northeastern Borno State.

The troops were escorting residents from the village of Sabon Garin Kimba in dozens of trucks to a camp in the town of Damboa about 50 kilometres (30 miles) away, according to a militia fighting against the jihadists alongside the army.

Similarly, last week, the Islamic State (IS) claimed that its fighters killed at least 20 Nigerian soldiers in some attacks in Borno state.

Concise News understands that one of the attacks was the one carried out on Wednesday, June 12 at Kareto village, Mobbar area of the state.
