Elation Turns Deflation As Falcons Take Protest To NASS

Players of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team stormed the National Assembly in the early hours of Wednesday to continue their protest of unpaid allowances by the Nigeria Football Federation.

The Falcons, who earlier this month won their eighth Africa Women’s Cup of Nations title in Cameroon, have been protesting against the non-payment of their entitlements.

Each player of the victorious team is reportedly owed up to $25,000 by the country’s football federation. But the NFF said they were yet to raise the money.

And the ladies have refused to leave the Agura Hotel, Abuja, since their arrival from Cameroon.

With this protest, they are hoping that President Muhammadu Buhari, who is due to visit the National Assembly today to present the 2017 Appropriation Bill to lawmakers, will come to their aid.

Some of their placards read, “We are your children, pity us”; “Let us respect women”; “female football deserves respect.”
