Super Falcons Seek 10th Title In Lionesses’ Den

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have met the Lionesses of Cameroon twice in the final of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations. They triumphed on both occasions.
With Florence Omagbemi leading a pack of talented and highly mobile young women to the final of the 2016 edition in Cameroon; the expectation is simply a 10th triumph!
However, their lacklustre and laboured win over the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in the semifinals on Tuesday has raised a few dust of doubt in the minds of keen lovers of the game!
Six-goal tournament top scorer Asisat Oshoala, like many pundits, knows the nine-time African champions must raise their game against the Lionesses, as they are up against a formidable side.
As it was in the past when Mercy Akide scored for fun on the African continent, Oshoala seems to have stepped into the big shoes of the humble and hardworking top scorer in the new set up.
The Arsenal ladies forward has acknowledged the nervy and uninspiring display from the team and has roused her team-mates to put the semis behind and do the job against Cameroon right at their backyard.
They did exactly that two years ago in Namibia when Desire Opranozie and the aforementioned Oshoala scored a goal apiece to put the burly and aggressive Lionesses to bed to win the ninth title.

Expect a packed Stadium
The only snag is that they will not be playing at a neutral ground and as such will require the nerves of steel to overcome what will certainly be a hostile atmosphere in the Ahmadu Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde on Saturday.
All said and done, no pundit can bet against the Super Falcons making it an unprecedented ‘La Decima’ of titles in Africa by the close of business on the pitch on Saturday. As is the past; all they have to do is to play their game and attack the Lionesses knowing that is the best form of defense!
