Edo Police Trains Officers In Weapons Handling

The Edo State Police Command has taken a step to enhance the capacity and professionalism of its officers by commencing training on weapon handling and other activities. The exercise, which is being supervised by the Commander Mopol 5, Benin, ACP Habib Rabiu, focuses on physical training, handling of arms, and hazard manoeuvring.

According to ACP Habib Rabiu, the training is aimed at strengthening the force’s response to issues and preventing accidental discharges. He added that the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Dankwara, mandated personnel of the command to undergo the training to guide their stations effectively and respond to distress calls professionally.

The training is also expected to promote police-community relationships, as the officers will be better equipped to handle their duties with professionalism and ensure the safety of the citizens. At the end of the training, the command hopes to see significant improvements in the trainees’ handling of guns, combing the bush for criminals, and other safety measures.

The command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, revealed that the command also organized capacity workshops for senior officers with reference to police duty, law, relationship with the citizens, police informant, and community. This workshop, which was organized in collaboration with the state criminal department, is aimed at enhancing the intelligence and capacity of the officers in relating with the public.

The Edo State Police Command’s commitment to enhancing its officers’ professionalism is commendable, as it will undoubtedly improve the security situation in the state. The police must continue to prioritize capacity building and training to ensure that officers are equipped with the necessary skills to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently.
