Alex Iwobi scored his first goal in a competitive game for the Super Eagles as Nigeria beat hosts Zambia 2-1 to open their campaign in Group B on a winning note in the African qualifiers for Russia 2018 Fifa World Cup.

The Arsenal starlet silenced the home fans when he fired a volley past Kennedy Mweene in goal for the Chipolopolo in the 32nd minute.

Kelechi Iheanacho doubled the lead three minutes from half time, after rounding the Zambian goalkeeper.

The Zambians, however, came all out in the second half. And in the 71st minute, Collins Mbesuma took advantage of a Kenneth Omeruwo’s mistake to beat Carl Ikeme from close range.
