Shanghai Masters: Bautista Agut Knocks Out Djokovic


World number one Novak Djokovic has been knocked out of the Shanghai Masters by Roberto Bautista Agut with a 6-4, 6-4 semi-final defeat.
It was Agut’s first victory against Djokovic in six matches. The Spaniard will now meet the winner of the second semi-final match between Britain’s Andy Murray and Gilles Simon of France.
The 19th ranked player had on Friday defeated ninth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 6-4 .
His first semi-final came two years ago on home soil in Madrid, where he lost to Rafael Nadal.
How the 28-year-old won
Agut recording only one double fault to Djokovic’s two and winning six break points out of 7.
He also recorded more aces, 5-4, in comparison with the world number one.
The Spaniard took the first set in 42 minutes with his first break point. And he broke three times in the next one for victory.
Djokovic, who was trailing 3-5 after he was broken by Agut, broke Agut back to stay alive in the second set.
But he failed to save a match point, when he was serving 4-5.
Agut wrapped up the match 6-4, 6-4.
