Diri Promises Affordable Housing in Bayelsa

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has declared affordable housing a primary focus for his second term. This commitment was voiced during a meeting with Oyetunde Ojo, the Managing Director/CEO of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), and his team, who visited the Governor at the Government House in Yenagoa.

During the discussions, Governor Diri affirmed his administration’s resolve to work closely with the federal government to enhance the housing sector in Bayelsa. He approved the allocation of land for the FHA to advance President Bola Tinubu’s vision of housing for the state’s residents.

Governor Diri praised the FHA’s initiative to engage with state governments on federal housing projects and urged other federal appointees to consider regional specificities when creating national policies. He highlighted the importance of distinguishing between high and low-density areas in the planning of federal housing estates.

Furthermore, the Governor expressed gratitude towards President Tinubu for the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, recommending an acceleration of the project, including commencement from the Calabar end to boost efficiency.

In response, FHA Managing Director Ojo underscored the importance of accessible housing and conveyed the President’s commitment to transcending political divisions to meet the housing needs of all Nigerians. Ojo requested 100 hectares of land to fulfill this mandate and commended Governor Diri for his developmental efforts, especially in road construction across the state, acknowledging the unique challenges posed by Bayelsa’s terrain.
