Dangote’s New Projects To Create 250,000 Jobs
The Dangote Group has disclosed that new projects would create additional 250,000 employment opportunities for Nigerians when completed. These investments includes on agriculture, sugar, oil refinery and fertilisers.
Executive Director, Communications, Alhaji Ahmed Mansur disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to the Mansur, the projects will encourage self-sufficiency in food production and reduce capital flight from the country.
Company Projections
Mansur further stated that the company’s cement production was expected to grow from its current 40m tonnes to between 75m and 80m tonnes in 2020. He said it was projected that about 40m tonnes would be produced by the company in Nigeria.
Also, he said the conglomerate is intensifying on its Backward Integration Sugar Project. According to him, the company hopes to expand its sugarcane plantation to cover 12,000 hectares. This will double the current capacity of the 6,000 hectares, hence, boosting local sugar production.
“We are focusing on increasing investment in agriculture. We have the largest transport fleet and we are developing new sugar plantations in Sokoto, Taraba, Niger and Kwara to reduce imports.”
On Diversification Efforts
Meanwhile, Mansur commended the Federal Government’s efforts at diversifying the economy. He particularly mentioned government’s renewed interest in agricultutre and solid minerals. He said this policy is sustainable and inclusive direction for economic growth.
