Court Orders Dangote To Open Defence Oct. 16
The National Industrial Court, Abuja, has fixed Oct. 16 for Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana, Kogi, to open its defence in the case of alleged dismissal of former employees.
Mohammed Aliyu and 21 other aggrieved workers who were mechanics in the company, had taken the cement company to court over alleged unlawful dismissal.
They were allegedly dismissed from the company on Sept. 6, 2015, over an alleged restructuring.
The claimants prayed the court to order the respondents to pay their entitlements and other benefits accrued to them.
The aggrieved workers also prayed the court to prevail on the respondents to pay damages for the alleged unlawful dismissal.
Justice Edith Agbakoba fixed the date after U. Enwere, counsel to the claimants, informed the court that the defence counsel, Noah Abdul, was not in court.
The court, thereafter, adjourned the suit till Oct. 16 for defence and ordered that hearing notices should be served on the respondent.
