Diego Costa scored the winner as Chelsea made it nine consecutive wins in the Premier League after a 1-0 victory over difficult West Brom.

Costa made his mental alertness count when he took advantage of a mistake by Gareth McAuley in the 76th minute. He dispossessed the defender and curled a delightful left-foot shot past Ben Foster.

No space for the Blues

The Baggies had made their presence in the game count as they restricted the Blues from penetrating their final third. And only one other shot on target from David Luiz free-kick passed through the back four.

But Antonio Conte’s men came close through an N’Golo Kante effort that deflected off Pedro and rolled just wide of the goal.

The Baggies had their chance

West Brom also had early opportunities in the tight game.  A Chris Brunt shot fizzed wide and Salomon Rondon’s attempt went across goal.

But the Blues did enough to earn all points and regain the Premier League roof after Arsenal took the position on Saturday.

Meanwhile, West Brom stay ninth following the defeat.
