Chelsea Urged to Go for Modric

Former Chelsea player Joe Cole has voiced his opinion, urging the club’s hierarchy to consider integrating more experienced players into their squad. Cole specifically highlighted Real Madrid midfield maestros Luka Modric and Toni Kroos as potential acquisitions for the Blues.

Chelsea, under new ownership led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, have embraced a revamped transfer strategy, investing over £1 billion in recruiting younger talents to refresh their squad.

However, the shift in approach has yet to yield desired results on the pitch. Despite securing a spot in the final of the EFL Cup and reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Mauricio Pochettino’s side finds themselves languishing in 11th place in the Premier League standings, grappling with a challenging season.

‘I’d be looking to maybe bring in some experienced players to set the tone,’ Cole said, reflecting on what Pochettino can do to improve his squad.

‘Does Luka Modric want to come and play in the Premier League for one more year? He’s still doing bits at Real Madrid. How much has he helped [Eduardo] Camavinga, [Aurelien] Tchouameni, [Federico] Valverde? He would have had such an influence on them as players.

‘Toni Kroos is 34 but does he want to test himself at his age, coming over here and helping out this young squad?’
