CAN Gives Update On COZA's Fatoyinbo After Rape Allegation
Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Wednesday called for a comprehensive investigation into the rape allegations against the senior pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo.

Concise News reports that Busola Dakolo, wife of singer Timi Dakolo, had shocked many last week when she alleged that Fatoyinbo raped her when she was a teenager in Ilorin, Kwara state.

But the clergyman has since denied the allegation, saying that he has never raped anyone in his life.

He however announced on Monday that he had taken a “leave of absence from the pulpit of the church.”

This was after protesters had marched to the COZA headquarters in Abuja on Sunday, calling on the preacher to step aside over the allegations.

And CAN, in a statement signed by the association’s National Director, Legal and Public Affairs, Barr. Kwamkur Samuel Vondip, in Jos, said that it was deeply concerned about the rape allegations.

“While efforts must be made to get to the root of the matter through thorough investigation, the association condemns totally, any act of infidelity either by a pastor or any member of the church of God,” it said.

“Immoral relationships with anybody in the society are against the teachings of the Bible and the church and we urge all believers all over the country to run away from them because, as the Bible says and we strongly believe, adulterers and fornicators, God will judge (Heb. 13:4).”

The religious body called on security agencies and the judiciary to redouble their efforts in prosecuting cases of rape and other heinous crimes without fear or prejudice.
