Former Military Head of State, Gen. Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (rtd), in Minna, advised aggrieved members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to make peace and make the party a formidable opposition.
He made the call on Sunday, when the national chairman of the PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff and former Governor of Niger State, Dr Babangida, Aliyu paid him a visit at his residence.
Last week, an Appeal Court sitting in Port-Harcourt, recognised the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the PDP.
Babangida, expressed delight in the manner Sheriff handled his victory at the Appeal Court.
The former Head of State said there is room for reconciliation and unity and called all aggrieved members to sheath their sword and make PDP formidable.
Sheriff said the victory was for every member of the party all over Nigeria and it was all just a family misunderstanding.
”IBB congratulated me and advised me to continue that way so that I can bring everybody back together to make the party a formidable opposition party.
”What we want to do now is how to put the party back to shape so that everyone that is aggrieved is brought back as one united family once again.
“This is because united we stand, divided will fall,” he said.
Sheriff said he has called on Makarfi and every other member to come back so they can all work together.
Also, the former Governor of Niger State, Dr Babangida Aliyu has asked members not to get the party entangled in legal battles but instead widen solutions to the problems rocking the party.
”That is why for the moment, Ali Modu Sheriff is the Chairman of the Party until anybody is able to go higher to set aside this decision of the court. Those of us who love to see solutions to this party will continue to find solutions. I think we should all bury our ambitions; you can’t have an ambition without a platform.
”We need to have a platform first of all and we are in the opposition, and we need time to organise and re-organise and go back to the people with plausible, real solution to their problems,” he said.
The former Governor said the PDP would be of no use to anybody if it remains divided.
