Premier League champion Chelsea lost its opening day fixture of its title defence to Burnley 3-2 at home after Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas were given the marching orders.

Morata rescue

Chelsea were able to reduce the deficit after record signing, Alvaro Morata, was brought-in in the second half and the substitution paid off almost instantly as the Spaniad got his first goal for the defending champions with his first touch of the game to bring the scoreline to 3-1 in the 69th minute of the game.

A second yellow card for Cesc Fabregas in the 81st minute of the game further dampened Chelsea’s chances of fully coming back into the game despite Morata’s motivation.

Nine-man Chelsea fought gallantly to reduce the tally and it paid off as David Luiz scored the second goal for Chelsea to bring the final scoreline to 3-2.
