Nigerian performers won the majority of the prizes at the 8th All Africa Music Award, or AFRIMA, which was held on January 15, 2023, in Dakar, Senegal, demonstrating the continued dominance of the Nigerian music business in Africa.
The Best Album and Best African Act prizes went to Nigerian superstar Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, while the Breakout Artist of the Year went to vocalist Ahmed Ololade, aka Asake, who had an incredible year in 2022.
The song “High,” which was written by David Adeleke and Adekunle Gold, was named Best African Pop and Best Inspirational Song, respectively. Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, received Best West African Act.
The seventh award presentation, the first to be hosted in a French-speaking nation and aired in over 84 nations worldwide, aims to introduce African singers to international audiences while appreciating the variety and history of the continent.
Most of the previous events were held in Nigeria, including the most recent one, which took place in Lagos in 2021 and saw Malian musician Ibrahim Mahamadou Fily Sissoko, often known as Iba One, win the Best Album prize.
