Farmers, Fulani Herdsmen Sign Peace Pact In Nasarawa
Farmers and herdsmen have signed a peace pact in Doma, Nasarawa state on Sunday, to curb the perennial crisis between them.
It was gathered that the meeting was attended by the Fulani, Alago, Eggon, Mada, Tiv, Migili, traditional rulers and security agencies from the area.
Speaking to Northern City News after the meeting, the Senior Programme Director of SCG, Sani Suleiman, called on the tribes to live by the agreement and continue to respect one another’s culture, tradition and means of livelihood.
“What we do mainly is to organise peace meetings and workshops for the affected communities and also use educating and entertaining dramas that portray peace and unity,” he said.
“We have also worked in the North-East, Southern Kaduna, South-South, Plateau and other communities that were engulfed by crisis.
“And in all that we do, we allow people from the affected communities play an active role in order to understand the importance of living together irrespective of their differences.”
