The Presidency on Tuesday downplayed the alliance between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and leaders of pan-Yoruba social-political organization, Afenifere.

Obasanjo, during a private visit to Afenifere leader Reuben Fasoranti, on Monday, had appealed to the group on the need to work together ahead of the 2019 elections.

He called on the group to ensure that they played vital roles in Nigeria’s rebirth, through next year’s election.

But Buhari’s media aide Garba Shehu, in a chat with Daily Independent, challenged both Obasanjo and Afenifere to come out with their voters and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming election to see if they can defeat him.

“I don’t see anything coming out of the alliance. The two of them, which party do they represent? If they have voters’ card, let’s meet at the polling station,” he said.
