Buhari Fails To Sign Electoral Bill, Cites Insecurity

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly written to the National Assembly his reason for not assenting to the Electoral Act Bill.

His letter cites insecurity as the reason why he failed to assent his signature to the Bill.

It also pointed out that political parties are governed by their own Constitution and can decide what mode of election they want.

Buhari also pointed out that signing the Bill will place smaller parties at a disadvantage.

The Bill which was transmitted to him by the National Assembly also makes provision for the Electronic Transmission of election results.

It is reported that Buhari called for the removal of the provision for direct primaries from the Bill.

He was supposed to sign the Bill yesterday which was the completion of the 30 day period for an enactment to become law.
