President Buhari Meets With 21 Chibok Girls Released By Boko Haram
President Buhari on Wednesday met with the 21 Chibok girls released by Boko Haram earlier this week.Earlier this week, Shekau’s faction of Boko Haram released 21 of the schoolgirls it abducted from their dormitories in Chibok. The girls were in captivity for over two years before a Swiss-led negotiations between Boko Haram and the Nigerian government resulted in their release.
Buhari was on his way to Germany when Boko Haram released the school girls. He met them for the first time some hours ago. The President promised that the Federal Government will rehabilitate and reintegrate the girls back into the society.
The President also states that his government will redouble its effort to secure the release of the other girls in detention.
The Buhari-led government, according to widespread reports, is still negotiating the release of another batch of 83 Chibok girls.
Another faction of Boko Haram attacks Nigerian troops
Meanwhile, troops of operation Lafiya Dole yesterday suffered a setback when they were hit by a surprise attack launched by members of dreaded Islamic terrorists group, boko haram.
The attack took place at Gashigar, a border area between Nigeria and Niger republic, in the northeastern state of Bornu.
A statement issued by Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Concise News gathers that 13 soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries as a result of the attack. An uncertain number of soldiers went missing also.
The army spokesperson says the wounded soldiers are receiving treatment. He also claims that the army has launched a manhunt for the missing soldiers.
The attack is believed to have been launched by remnants of the boko haram faction loyal to ISIS. The Shekau-led faction has been at logger-heads with this splinter cell from its rank and file.
