Former Belgium national team handler Marc Wilmots has rejected a chance to coach the Desert Warriors of Algeria as contract talks between the Algerian Football Federation and the gaffer collapsed over finances.

The FAF are looking for the successor of Milovan Rajevac who quit his post earlier this month after Cameroon forced Algeria to a 1-1 draw in Blida in a World Cup qualifier.

Local media reports indicate that Frenchman Rolland Courbis is likely to take over Nigeria’s World Cup rivals.

According to the country’s football house, negotiations between Wilmots and FAF President, Mohamed Raouraoua, which was held in Brussels, broke down over finances.

It was, however, speculated that the Belgian coach’s asking price was beyond the budget of the football federation.

Consequently,  Courbis has now emerged as the favourite to replace Rajevac.
