Barau Presides Over ECOWAS Parliament As Acting Speaker

Senator Barau I. Jibrin, Deputy President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, assumed the role of acting speaker during the plenary session of the Sixth Legislature of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Friday.

Representatives from a multitude of ECOWAS member states, including Nigeria, Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cote D’ Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Senegal, and Sierra Leone, participated in the session, which lasted for over an hour.

The parliament convened to address key regional issues and discuss matters of mutual interest among member nations.

Following the session, the parliament adjourned its sitting to reconvene on Saturday, April 6th, 2024, at 1:30 pm.

Senator Jibrin’s temporary stewardship of the session underscores Nigeria’s active involvement and leadership within the ECOWAS community.
