Assault: Singer Seun Kuti Turns Self In After IGP Arrest Order

Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command after a video captured him assaulting a police officer.

Seun Kuti, son of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, turned up at the police command in the company of his lawyer and family representative.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a tweet on Monday.

“Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, in the early hours of today turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in the company of his lawyer and family representative. He has been placed under arrest,” the tweet read.

An order for his arrest had earlier been issued by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Baba, over the assault on the police officer.

The IGP equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause of the assault and the prosecution of the suspect accordingly.

IGP Baba used the opportunity to warn Nigerians against acts of disdain for symbols of authority, adding that such will not be tolerated while offenders will be surely brought to book.
