APC Wins Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency By-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Nurudeen Akinwunmi, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the winner of the Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency By-Election in Lagos.

Akinwunmi polled 7640 votes to defeat his closest rival, Babatope Akinyele, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 1771 votes.

The returning officer of the election Prof. Clement Aghatise disclosed that Social Democratic Party (SDP) polled five votes, while Action Alliance (AA) had 14 votes.

Others are the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 158 votes while Alliance for Democracy (AD) had 101 votes.

Aghatise said the total number of registered voters was 339, 864. He also noted the total number of accredited voters which was 10, 051.

The total number of valid votes was put at 9689; invalid votes were 195, while the total votes cast were 9884.

The by-election was occasioned by the death of Mr Elijah Adewale, who represented the constituency at the Federal House of Representatives.

Adewale died in Abuja on 20 July.
