The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) says it desires a viable opposition party in Nigeria and hence is praying for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to quickly resolve its leadership crisis.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said there was need for PDP to be vibrant to provide a critical opposition.

According to the statement, the ruling party is praying for the embattled opposition party to put its house in order because the ruling party needs a vibrant critical opposition to keep democracy alive.

The APC however urged the opposition party to stop peddling conspiracy theories and blaming imaginary enemies if they want to survive in the political space of the country.

It recalled that Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the party had alleged that the APC instructed the Police to prevent its members from meeting at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja.

Makarfi, according to it, had also alleged that the APC had somehow influenced the Appeals Court decision which ruled against him as the PDP National Caretaker Committee Chairman.

The party stated that none of the allegations were true, adding that ”the Police does not take instructions from the APC.”

The ruling party added that so far, the Makarfi faction of the PDP had not faulted the police or provided any proof for its allegations against the APC, a development that was surprising.
