Update: No Soldier Was Kidnapped, Army Spokesman says

The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports that a soldier was kidnapped in Lagos during an ambush by gunmen.
Lt. Col. Olaolu Daudu, spokesman of the 81 Division, who made the clarification in a statement in Lagos, said the soldier only got missing in action (MIA).
”The officer got missing in action when troops came under heavy ambush during routine patrol of Lagos creeks.
”I will like to state that no officer was kidnapped.
”However, while on routine patrol of the creeks around Abule-Ado, Festac Town area in Lagos, troops came under heavy gunfire in an ambush.
”They were able to fight their way out of the ambush during which the said officer got missing-in-action (MIA).
”Efforts are ongoing in search for the missing personnel,” he said.
Daudu also said the army remain resilient and focused in the search for its missing soldier.
He called on the general public to provide information on the missing officer to the army and assured residents of their safety.
