Algeria Dismiss Coach After Cameroon Draw
Algeria Football Federation have dismissed head coach Milovan Rajevac.
The former Ghana coach was just over three months into his contract with the Desert Foxes.
The Desert Warriors drew 1-1 at home to Cameroon on Sunday in the opening round of matches in Group B of African 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
And that did not go down well with football faithful in the Maghreb nation.
“The Algerian Football Federation have decided to amicably terminate the contract of Milovan Rajevac,” an Algerian station reported.
Assistant coaches Nabil Neghiz and Yazid Mansouri are likely to replace the 62-year-old on a caretaker basis until a successor is appointed.
Build up to the sack
FAF president Mohamed Raouraoua met with Rajevac on Tuesday to sort out his future.
The meeting followed reports of several players calling for his departure. The players were reported to have blamed the Serb for Sunday’s draw in Blida.
Algeria reached the last 16 of the 2014 World Cup. But they face a difficult task in qualifying for the tournament in Russia, as they have Nigeria, Cameroon, and Zambia to challenge. Only the group winners qualify for the finals.
