‘Cocky’ Desert Foxes Arrive Today, Vow To Cage Eagles

Algeria’s Desert Foxes are expected in Lagos Thursday (today) en route to Uyo for their World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

Both countries are in Group B of the African qualifying zone along with Cameroon and Zambia.

Nigeria currently top the group with three points. Cameroon and Algeria trail on a point each, while Zambia sit at the bottom with no point.

The Algerians are hoping to bounce back from their 1-1 home draw with Cameroon in October, when they confront the Eagles on Saturday.

Under the watch of new manager George Leekens, the Foxes have been training for the game at the National Technical Centre Sidi Moussa.

They are expected to have their morning session today before boarding a chartered flight to the West African country.

Injury setbacks

According to local media, the Algerians have some injury worries. Tahart, Ghezzal, and Hilal Soudani are major doubts for the game.

Ghezzal and Boudebouz were examined by the team’s doctors before they were excused from the training camp. But Dynamo Zagreb striker Soudani did not even fly down to Algiers. However, his medical record was checked by the medical team.

Beat Nigeria

Meanwhile, the Algerian Football Federation President, Mohamed Raouraoua, has charged the Desert Foxes to beat the Super Eagles in Uyo.

“You have a duty to come back with a positive result from the match against Nigeria. It is mandatory. We must win there,” Raouraoua told the players.

“All the Algerian people are behind you. They support you and hope for a good result in Nigeria. We must not disappoint, it’s all I can say,” added the Algerian FF president.

“The World Cup is an important event that should not be missed. You should know that everyone is behind you.”
