The Delta State Government says it has confirmed three new suspected cases of the Monkeypox Virus.

According to the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Nicholas Azinge, who disclosed this, the suspected cases have been isolated and they are presently under medical care in the state.

The Commissioner, who did not state where the suspected cases are being treated, insists that they will wait for the result of a laboratory test to confirm if the patients were infected with the monkeypox virus.

He further informed that health personnel across the state have been placed on red alert and urged residents of Delta not to panic but maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The Monkeypox virus was first diagnosed in 1958 in Copenhagen and can be transmitted by contact with an infected animal or person(s).
