Air Force Strikes Terrorists in Lake Chad

In a significant victory against Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) conducted a series of decisive air strikes in the Tumbuns region on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno state. Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF, delivered this pivotal update in a statement issued on Monday from Abuja.

The relentless air strikes executed by the NAF resulted in the obliteration of terrorists’ hideouts, the destruction of their infrastructure, and a crippling blow to their strategic logistics base within the area. The strikes targeted Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu between September 27 and September 30, following confirmed intelligence of the terrorists’ activities, which posed a dire threat to military installations and law-abiding citizens residing in these locations.

During the operation at Tumbun Fulani, NAF surveillance detected terrorists clandestinely loading jerricans onto two concealed guntrucks hidden beneath shrubbery. In swift response, NAF aircraft were dispatched to intercept what was believed to be a major logistics hub. The Battle Damage Assessment that followed revealed the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of the guntrucks.

Similar precision strikes were carried out at Tumbun Shitu after the identification of structures suspected to be terrorists’ hideouts hidden amidst dense foliage. NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Gabkwet reported the sighting of three gun trucks transporting terrorists into the area, making the strike an urgent necessity. The aftermath of the air raid saw numerous terrorists neutralized and their trucks reduced to wreckage.

“The determination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to significantly limit the activities of terrorists in the Northeast and indeed other parts of Nigeria remains on course,” declared Air Commodore Gabkwet. He emphasized that these operational successes reflect improved synergy and cooperation among all security agencies, along with unwavering support from the Nigerian people. The NAF’s commitment to safeguarding the nation and its citizens from the scourge of terrorism continues undeterred.
