AC Milan Name Fonseca New Manager

AC Milan has appointed former Roma coach Paulo Fonseca as their new manager, the Serie A runners-up announced on Thursday. Fonseca, 51, joins Milan from French club Lille, where he has been coaching since 2022. He has signed a three-year contract with the Italian giants.

The announcement was made by former Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, representing the club’s owner, during a press conference. Fonseca succeeds Stefano Pioli, who was dismissed at the end of the 2023-24 season after a five-year tenure.

Fonseca’s return to Italy marks a significant step for Milan as they seek to build on their recent successes and challenge for domestic and European titles. His experience in Serie A, combined with his recent work in Ligue 1, positions him as a strategic choice for the club.

“We studied very carefully what he did, how he prepared his matches,” said Ibrahimovic, who had two spells as a player with the club, ending his on-field career with Milan in 2023.

“We want him to bring his identity of the game, his offensive style to our team, to our players.

“After five years we wanted something new, with all respect to Stefano Pioli.”
