80% Of Olu Jacobs Time No Longer Here, Says Wife

Renowned Nollywood actress and director, Joke Silva, recently revealed the formidable challenges she faces while caring for her husband, distinguished actor Olu Jacobs, who has been grappling with dementia.

In a candid interview with actress and media personality Nancy Isime, Silva shed light on the profound impact her husband’s health struggles have had on their lives. Married for 37 years, the actress painted a poignant picture of the toll dementia has taken on the iconic actor.

Silva disclosed that navigating Jacobs’ deteriorating health has been an arduous journey, fundamentally altering the man she exchanged vows with nearly four decades ago. The actress expressed the difficulty of witnessing the transformation in her husband, emphasizing the emotional toll it has taken on both of them.

“It hasn’t been easy. There was a point of acceptance for me that everything happening is reality. It is like the person I married, 80 per cent of the time, is no longer there.

“But the thing is this: when he was there, he was an incredible father to his children and an amazing husband. He was practically my best friend.”

Silva said despite her husband’s health challenge, she has not stopped loving him.

“The husband I knew is no longer there for me. This man that is here is someone I still love, but love in a different way,” she said.
