Erik ten Hag, manager of Manchester United, has offered an update on his intentions for Saturday’s derby against Manchester City at Old Trafford.
The manager was questioned about the team news at Carrington, where the Reds have been training for the 12:30 GMT kick-off, at a press conference to promote the much-anticipated Old Trafford game.
Prospective loan signing Wout Weghorst will not be available, although Ten Hag claimed a deal with Burnley for the striker is “near”.
Diogo Dalot was replaced in the first half of the Carabao Cup quarter-final triumph against Charlton Athletic by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
“I think Diogo Dalot is not available and Anthony Martial, he trained this morning so we have to wait to see how he recovers from this training and if he’s available. We will make the decision tomorrow.
“It is a small thing in his leg [with Martial] and, if he is not available for tomorrow, it will be Wednesday [at Crystal Palace].”
Weghorst was not signed before the deadline to play in the fixture, with confirmation still required that the Netherlands international has sealed a loan switch to bolster the club’s attacking options.
“Weghorst wasn’t available in the last weeks and it could be a bonus if he was,” added Ten Hag. “Hopefully, he will soon be there and also we are winning a lot of games without Anthony Martial.”
Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho have both been sidelined of late, and are also set to be out.
Man City Team News
Blues defender Ruben Dias is out with a hamstring injury, while teammate John Stones is also “not ready,” according to boss Pep Guardiola.
The City manager rotated his team for the last two cup games, against Chelsea and Southampton, but will almost certainly return Ederson in goal, with Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland certain to start after coming off the bench in the midweek defeat at St Mary’s.
On Wednesday, Kalvin Phillips got his first start for the club, although Rodri is anticipated to anchor the midfield.
